The project began in 2006 and draws it’s inspiration from Les Tricoteuse (the knitters). These were women standing next to the guillotine, knitting, during the French Revolution. The moment the guillotine blade separated the head from the body they would drop a stitch, hence create a hole in the knitting. These holes were later used as statistics to count how many executions there had been during the day.
